Long Before Concrete Rose

Long before there was Concrete Rose Publishing, there was a woman with stories to tell.

Elaine Rose has spent more than two decades writing—creating characters, building worlds, documenting life, and finding stories in places other people sometimes overlook.

Writing wasn't a business strategy. It was simply part of who she was.

Over the years, that passion expanded beyond fiction. Elaine found another storytelling home in sports journalism, covering the emotion, culture, personalities, and stories surrounding football and basketball.

But eventually, writing the stories wasn't enough. She wanted to build a home for them. And Concrete Rose Publishing was born.

Why Concrete Rose?

Some roses grow in gardens. Others push through concrete. Elaine knows something about the second kind.

Her journey as a writer and entrepreneur has unfolded alongside battles with lupus and brain cancer—chapters that could have easily convinced her to put her dreams somewhere on a shelf and promise herself she'd return to them "someday."

She kept writing instead. She kept creating. And eventually, she started building.

Not because adversity made her a writer. She was already a writer. Adversity simply reinforced something she had learned long ago: you don't have to wait until life becomes perfect to create something meaningful.

Concrete Rose Publishing grew from that belief. The name represents resilience without romanticizing struggle. It represents creating when circumstances aren't ideal. Finding beauty in complicated places. Giving imperfect people room to tell honest stories. And refusing to allow circumstances to write the ending for you.

20+ Years Of Storytelling

Elaine's relationship with storytelling didn't begin with Concrete Rose. It spans more than two decades.

Through fiction, memoir, sports journalism, and cultural commentary, her writing has consistently been drawn to what happens behind the obvious story.

The family behind the athlete. The politics behind the institution. The person behind the reputation. The pain behind the strength. The decisions people make when there are no perfect choices.

That same curiosity now shapes the editorial identity of Concrete Rose Publishing. We aren't looking for perfect characters. We're interested in human ones. We aren't interested in making every story comfortable. We're interested in making it matter.

From The Sideline To The Bookshelf

Sports have also shaped Elaine's approach to storytelling. As a sports writer, she's learned that the scoreboard rarely tells the whole story.

Behind every athlete is a family. Behind every program is a culture. Behind every victory is sacrifice nobody saw. And sometimes, behind the institutions people celebrate are stories nobody wants examined too closely.

That perspective naturally found its way into her fiction and ultimately into the DNA of Concrete Rose Publishing: stories about ambition, power, family, survival, culture, consequences, and the complicated people caught between them.

There is always another story behind the story. Elaine intends to find it.

Building The House

Concrete Rose Publishing isn't being built simply to publish Elaine's books. The vision is bigger than that.

It's about creating an independent publishing house where bold storytelling can exist without having every rough edge polished away.

A home for writers with distinctive voices. For complicated characters. For stories rooted in culture and lived experience. For fiction that entertains while still having something to say. For memoirs that tell the truth without turning someone's life into inspiration porn.

For books that might make readers laugh, argue, cry, question something—or sit silently for a minute after reading the last page.

That's the house Elaine Rose is building. Brick by brick. Book by book. Story by story.

A Note From Elaine

I spent years writing without ever imagining that one day I’d build a publishing company around those words. Life changed that.

I’ve learned that tomorrow isn’t something any of us are promised, and “someday” can become a very dangerous place to store your dreams.

So I’m not waiting for someday anymore.

I’m writing the books. I’m building the company. I’m telling the stories. And I’m creating space for other storytellers to eventually do the same.

Concrete Rose Publishing represents every person who had to figure out how to grow somewhere they weren’t necessarily supposed to bloom.

We may have come through the concrete. But that doesn’t mean we have to stay beneath it.
